Christians and the Environmental Movement
With the sudden concern about the environment (due to highly possible large-scale extinctions, the Texas-sized island of plastic in the Pacific, microplastics and man-made toxins in our drinking water, etc.) there has of course been pushback. In Christian circles, the new catch-phrase used to deride caring for the environment is "religion." Christians who don't care about the environment are lumping all environmentalists together (radicals with conservatives) and saying we're all following the "religion of environmentalism." How cute. I see posts every day on Facebook from boomers talking about this "religion" and how we're "worshiping the Earth" and whatever else they're upset about at the moment. You know, cell phones and the internet and texting and whatnot.
I honestly don't understand why Christians are like this. As stewards of the Earth, aren't we specifically commanded by God to care for the Earth? A steward is someone who commands and cares for something in another person's ste
